Trade Unions Day, also known as Trade Union Employees Day, is observed in Tajikistan every October 24. This holiday was officially added to the country's list of holidays in 2021 and commemorates the meeting of President Emomali Rahmon with trade union representatives in 2019. The roots of trade unions in Tajikistan trace back to 1917, with the establishment of the first trade union at the Khujand railway station, and the movement gained momentum during the Soviet era, culminating in the formation of the Federation of Trade Unions of Tajikistan in 1991. Today, the Federation of Independent Trade Unions unites over 10,000 individual trade unions, representing more than 1 million workers. The legal framework governing trade unions was established by the Law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Trade Unions” adopted in 2011. Trade Unions Day is not a non-working day unless it coincides with a weekend, distinguishing it from other observances like Trade Union Action for Peace Day, celebrated on September 1.
