October 25: Dwarfism Awareness Day

International Dwarfism Awareness Day is observed worldwide every October 25. Established in 2012 by Little People of America (LPA), the day celebrates little people and educates the public about dwarfism, particularly focusing on achondroplasia, the most common cause of the condition. Dwarfism is characterized by an exceptionally small height, typically under 4 ft 10 in (147 cm), and can be either disproportionate or proportionate. The day aims to highlight the physical and social barriers faced by individuals with dwarfism, including height discrimination and bullying. Activities on this day include learning about dwarfism, participating in local events, donating to supportive organizations, and using social media to spread awareness with the hashtags #InternationalDwarfismAwarenessDay and #DwarfismAwarenessDay. The date was chosen to honor the birthday of LPA's founder, Billy Barty, an actor and advocate for people with dwarfism.
