Ľudovít Štúr's Birthday is observed in Slovakia every October 29 as an official remembrance day dedicated to the leader of the Slovak national revival. Born on October 29, 1815, in Uhrovec, Štúr significantly contributed to the development of the Slovak language standard. He began his studies at the Lýceum in Pressburg and became involved in the Slovak national movement in 1835. Initially aiming for a unified Czechoslovak language, he shifted focus to creating a distinct Slovak language standard due to a lack of cooperation from the Czech community. The first works on this new standard were published in 1844, and in 1851, Štúr participated in reform discussions that led to the final variant's approval in 1852. His contributions to Slovak culture are commemorated on this day, although it is not a public holiday.
