October 30: Indonesian Banknote Day (Indonesia)

Indonesian Banknote Day, also known as Finance Day, is observed in Indonesia every October 30. This day was initiated by the Ministry of Finance of Indonesia to highlight the significance of the Indonesian rupiah as a means of payment and a symbol of the nation's independence. The history of the Indonesian currency dates back to the Netherlands Indies gulden, which was the first currency to circulate in the region. During the Japanese occupation in 1942, military banknotes were issued, later replaced by the Netherlands Indies rupiah in 1943. Following Indonesia's declaration of independence on August 17, 1945, the first truly Indonesian rupiah notes, known as "Oeang Republik Indonesia," began circulating on October 30, 1946. This day serves as a reminder of the country's struggle for independence and the evolution of its currency.
