Law Enforcement Day is observed in Iran every October 5, corresponding to 13 Mehr in the Solar Hijri calendar. This official professional holiday celebrates the law enforcement personnel of the country, specifically the Law Enforcement Force of the Islamic Republic of Iran (NAJA), which comprises over 60,000 police personnel. The origins of law enforcement in Iran trace back to the late 19th century when Naser al-Din Shah Qajar initiated reforms inspired by European systems. The Iranian Gendarmerie was established in 1910 under Ahmad Shah Qajar as the first modern rural police and highway patrol. Following the Islamic Revolution of 1979, the law enforcement system consolidated into three main agencies, which merged in 1991 to form NAJA. This day serves to honor the contributions and service of law enforcement professionals in Iran.
