The Anniversary of the Cubana Bombing is observed in Cuba every October 6 to commemorate the victims of a terrorist attack that occurred on this date in 1976. A Cuban flight from Barbados to Jamaica was brought down by a bomb explosion, resulting in the deaths of all 73 people on board, including Cubans, Guyanese, and North Korean diplomats. The attack was orchestrated by anti-Castro Cuban exile groups who planted two time bombs on the plane in Trinidad before disembarking in Barbados. Mourning ceremonies take place annually, where authorities and citizens lay flowers and wreaths at a memorial for the victims. In 2005, declassified CIA documents revealed that the agency had prior knowledge of the attack but did not intervene, leading to accusations from the Cuban government of U.S. complicity.
