Agriculture Day is observed in Tajikistan every October 8, celebrating the contributions of individuals working in the agricultural sector, including the food processing industry. This day acknowledges their hard work and dedication, highlighting the significance of agriculture to the country's economy, where it accounts for around 20% of the gross domestic product and 60% of employment. Despite its mountainous landscape limiting agricultural land to only 28% of the territory, Tajikistan's agricultural practices have evolved since independence in 1992, with dekhan farms now cultivating over 60% of the agricultural land. The main commercial crops include cotton and wheat, with cotton being a significant export. Agriculture Day also serves to address the challenges faced by the industry, emphasizing the importance of irrigation, as 70% of arable land relies on this resource.
