The Myanmar Full Moon of Thadingyut is celebrated in Myanmar and lasts from the day before the full moon to the day following it, marking a three-day festival. This event, also known as the Festival of Lights, honors Buddha’s descent from heaven after he spent three months teaching his mother and other heavenly beings. It signifies the end of the Buddhist fasting month and is celebrated with a lavish Buddhist feast. During this time, Buddhists light candles in their homes and temples to commemorate Buddha's return to earth, and towns and villages throughout Myanmar keep their lights illuminated. The festival is rooted in the belief that Buddha returned on the night of the Thadingyut full moon, and it follows the Thingyan Festival as one of the most significant celebrations in the country.
