Pancasila Sanctity Day is observed in Indonesia every year on October 1. This day commemorates the events of the 30 September Movement in 1965, during which pro-Communist officers attempted a political revolt, resulting in the kidnapping and murder of six army generals. Their bodies were disposed of in the Lubang Buaya pit, which later became the site of the Pancasila Sakti Monument. Annually, a solemn ceremony is held at this monument, presided over by the President of Indonesia and attended by military personnel, members of the Scout movement (Pramuka), officials, leaders, and foreign ambassadors. The observance serves to remember the victims of the coup attempt and the subsequent violence that led to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of alleged communists.
