Beltane is an ancient Gaelic festival observed worldwide, celebrated every May 1, with festivities typically beginning on the evening of April 30. This festival marks the beginning of summer and is one of the four seasonal festivals of the ancient Gaels, alongside Samhain, Imbolc, and Lughnasadh. Traditionally, Beltane involved driving cattle out to summer pastures, accompanied by rituals aimed at protecting livestock and crops while encouraging growth. Bonfires were lit, around which cattle were walked, as these fires were believed to possess protective powers. Participants adorned their cattle, themselves, and their homes with yellow flowers such as rowan, primrose, and gorse. In some regions, such as Edinburgh, the Beltane Fire Festival is held annually on the eve of May Day, highlighting the festival's enduring cultural significance.
