Border Guard Day is observed in Kazakhstan on August 18 every year. This professional holiday was established by a presidential decree in 1992, although it was officially included in the calendar of professional holidays in 2002. The Border Guard Service of Kazakhstan was formed following the collapse of the Soviet Union, with new units created from existing troops in the territory of independent Kazakhstan. Initially, the service faced challenges due to a lack of administrative personnel, as all Russian officers had departed. However, these issues were addressed, and necessary personnel are now trained within the republic. Kazakh border guards are responsible for protecting over 9,320 miles (over 15,000 kilometers) of the state border, serving in diverse environments such as mountains, deserts, and at sea. The people of Kazakhstan recognize and appreciate the hard work of border guards in maintaining the safety of their country.
