Laylat al-Qadr

Laylat al-Qadr, also known as Lailatul Qadr, is observed worldwide and is believed to be the night when the first verses of the Quran were revealed to the Prophet Muhammad. It recurs every year at the end of Ramadan, with many traditions celebrating it on the night before the 27th of Ramadan, while Shia Muslims often observe it on the night of the 23rd. This significant night is commemorated with additional prayers, Quran reading, and, for some, the practice of iʿtikāf, which involves retreating in a mosque during the last ten days of Ramadan. The first verses revealed on Laylat al-Qadr were the initial five verses of the 95th sura, Sūrat al-ʿalaq. The exact date of Laylat al-Qadr is unclear, but it holds great importance in the Islamic faith, symbolizing the commencement of divine revelation.
