World Refrigeration Day is observed worldwide every year on June 26. It was established to highlight the importance of refrigeration technologies used in everyday life and to elevate the profile of the refrigeration, air conditioning, and heat pump sector. The day commemorates the birth anniversary of William Thomson, 1st Baron Kelvin, a key figure in thermodynamics. The inaugural celebration took place in 2019, and since then, it has featured various themes, including Diversity, The Cold Chain, Careers, and Cooling Champions. The idea for this observance was proposed by Stephen Gill, supported by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) and later the UN Environment Program (UNEP). On its first celebration, over 800 events were held in more than 150 countries, showcasing the global significance of refrigeration technology.
