Pramuka Day (Indonesia)

Pramuka Day is observed in Indonesia on August 14 every year, celebrating the founding of the national Scouting organization, Gerakan Pramuka, established in 1961. The roots of Scouting in Indonesia trace back to 1912 when it began as a branch of the Netherlands Pathfinder Organization. Following Indonesia’s independence in 1949, numerous Scouting organizations emerged, leading to a unification effort that culminated in 1961. This year marked the establishment of a single Scout Movement, with the first public parade held on August 14, now recognized as Pramuka Day. Gerakan Pramuka includes both boy and girl Scouts, reflecting the inclusive nature of the organization. The day serves as a reminder of the importance of Scouting in fostering community and leadership among youth in Indonesia.
