Commonwealth Day is observed worldwide on the second Monday of March. This annual observance celebrates the Commonwealth of Nations, which evolved from Empire Day, originally established in 1904 and renamed in 1958. On this day, a multi-faith service is held at Westminster Abbey in London, attended by the British Monarch, who delivers an address. While Commonwealth Day is a public holiday in Tuvalu, Gibraltar, the British Virgin Islands, and the Turks and Caicos Islands, it is not a public holiday in most member states. However, many countries participate in flag-raising ceremonies to mark the occasion. Additionally, every four years, the Commonwealth Games take place, featuring athletes from member nations.
