The Day of Physical Culture and Sport is observed in Ukraine every second Saturday of September. Established in 1994, this holiday celebrates professional athletes, coaches, physical education teachers, amateur sportsmen, and sports enthusiasts across the country. The day is marked with various sporting competitions, tournaments, marathons, relay races, and special lessons in schools. Students often congratulate their PE teachers, and distinguished athletes are recognized for their achievements. Popular sports in Ukraine include football, basketball, boxing, ice hockey, and gymnastics. Ukrainian athletes have been participating in the Olympic Games since 1994, with a notable tally of 115 medals at the Summer Olympics and 7 at the Winter Olympics.
