Workers of Natural Gas and Petroleum Industry Day is observed in Ukraine every second Sunday of September. Established by the first President of Ukraine, Leonid Kravchuk, in 1993, this professional holiday recognizes the contributions of workers in the natural gas and petroleum industries. The development of the petroleum industry in Ukraine began in the 18th century, with significant growth occurring post-World War II, including the start of natural gas exports to Poland in 1945. Despite the industry's importance, it currently involves only about 1% of the population. The celebration serves to encourage individuals to pursue careers in these sectors, highlighting their significance to the country's economy and energy supply.
