State Flag and State Emblem Day is observed in Belarus every second Sunday of May. This holiday was established by a Presidential Decree on March 26, 1998, following a referendum on May 14, 1995, where 75% of Belarusians supported the adoption of new state symbols. The current national flag features a red and green field with a white and red ornament pattern at the hoist end, based on the flag used during the Soviet Union, with modifications to remove the hammer and sickle. The state emblem consists of a green outline of Belarus over golden sun rays, with a globe and stalks of wheat flanked by clover and flax flowers, reflecting elements from the Soviet emblem. This day serves to celebrate and recognize the national symbols of Belarus.
