Second Wednesday in April: Day of Pink

The International Day of Pink is observed in Canada every second Wednesday of April as an anti-bullying awareness campaign. This initiative originated in September 2007 when a high school student in Cambridge, Nova Scotia, was bullied for wearing a pink polo shirt. In response, two students, Travis Price and David Shepherd, organized a campaign by encouraging classmates to wear pink, leading to widespread participation. The event inspired the Canadian Center for Gender and Sexual Diversity to officially launch the International Day of Pink. On this day, millions of people wear pink clothing to show solidarity against bullying, discrimination, homophobia, transphobia, racism, antisemitism, sexism, ageism, and ableism. The day is also marked by various flash mobs across Canada, highlighting the collective effort to combat these issues.
