September 11: Radio Day (Indonesia)

National Radio Day (Hari Radio Nasional) is observed in Indonesia every September 11 to commemorate the establishment of Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) in 1945. This day marks the takeover of radio stations previously operated by the Japanese Army and the founding of the first national radio network in the country. The celebration highlights the significant role of radio in Indonesia's media landscape, where it remains popular despite the rise of television and the Internet. Approximately 50% to 80% of Indonesians listen to the radio regularly, with young people making up a substantial portion of the audience. The Indonesian Broadcasting Commission and the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology regulate radio broadcasting, which includes around 3,000 live stations across the nation. National Radio Day serves as a reminder of the historical importance of radio in Indonesia's communication and cultural history.
