World Atopic Eczema Day, also known as World Eczema Day, is observed worldwide every September 14 to highlight the challenges faced by those living with atopic eczema, a common skin condition affecting about one fifth of the population at some point in their lives. Launched in 2018 by the International Alliance of Dermatology Patient Organizations (GlobalSkin) and the European Federation of Allergy and Airways Diseases Patients’ Associations (EFA), the day aims to unite the global patient community, support individuals and their families, and combat the stigma surrounding the condition. Activities include sharing personal stories, educating others about atopic eczema, and promoting understanding through social media campaigns using the hashtag #WorldAtopicEczemaDay. Each year, a new theme is selected for the awareness campaign, with past themes focusing on various aspects of living with the condition. While there is no cure, treatments exist to alleviate symptoms and improve quality of life for those affected.
