Cochabamba Day is observed in the Cochabamba Department of Bolivia every September 14 to commemorate the 1810 revolution, a significant event in the Bolivian war of independence. The celebration honors the uprising when approximately a thousand rebels took control of the city and deposed the governor, inspiring further rebellions in nearby regions. Cochabamba, known as the "granary" of Bolivia and the "Garden City," is recognized for its mild climate and agricultural productivity. The city, which was originally founded as Villa de Oropesa in 1571, was renamed Villa de Cochabamba in 1786 to acknowledge its role in suppressing indigenous uprisings. Today, Cochabamba Day serves as an official holiday, reflecting the region's historical significance and its evolution into a center for services, manufacturing, and tourism.
