September 14: Engineer’s Day (Romania)

Engineer’s Day is observed in Romania every September 14, celebrating the contributions of engineers to the nation’s development and modernization. This holiday was officially established in 2000 by the Romanian government to honor the hard work of engineers. Special events and festive ceremonies are organized annually by the Ministry of Education and Research in collaboration with the Technical Academy and the association of engineers, typically taking the form of symbolic meetings. The engineering profession in Romania has a rich history, with the first Technical Corps founded on June 15, 1894, and the establishment of the first long-running engineer society, the Polytechnic Society, in 1881. This society was inaugurated in the presence of King Carol I, coinciding with the launch of the first railroad built exclusively by Romanian engineers.
