Libraries Day is observed in Belarus every September 15, celebrating the contributions of libraries and their workers. Established by presidential decree in 2001 at the initiative of the Belarusian Library Association, this day is significant for both library professionals and reading enthusiasts, with approximately half of the Belarusian population utilizing library services. The date commemorates the anniversary of the opening of the Belarusian State University library in 1922, now known as the National Library of Belarus. On this day, various events are organized, including solemn meetings of librarians, exhibitions, round-table discussions, and presentations, all aimed at enhancing the status and prestige of libraries as cultural and educational centers.
