National Music Day is observed in Azerbaijan every September 18, commemorating the birthday of Uzeyir Hajibeyov, regarded as the father of Azerbaijani music. This cultural observance was officially established in 2008, aligning with the anniversary of the first performance of Hajibeyov's opera "Leyli and Majnun" in 1908. The day celebrates Hajibeyov's significant contributions to national music, including his role as the author of the Azerbaijani anthem during the Soviet period and his pioneering work in opera within the Islamic world.
