Majlisi Oli Day, also known as Supreme Assembly Day, is observed in Tajikistan every September 26 to honor the country's parliament, the Supreme Assembly of the Republic of Tajikistan (Majlisi Oli). The holiday was established in 2023 to recognize the legislative branch's role and importance. Tajikistan gained independence from the Soviet Union in 1991, and the Majlisi Oli was formed in 1995, evolving from the Soviet-era Supreme Soviet. The parliament transitioned to a bicameral system in 1999, consisting of the National Assembly and the Assembly of Representatives. The Majlisi Oli is responsible for legislative functions, budget approval, and oversight of the government, although its power is limited due to strong presidential authority. While it is an official holiday, it is not a public holiday or nonworking day unless it coincides with a weekend.
