Day of Libraries is observed in Ukraine every September 30. Established in 1998 by President Leonid Kuchma, the holiday celebrates the role of libraries in providing unrestricted access to information. The first libraries in the region began to appear shortly after the baptism of Kievan Rus, and today, there are over 40,000 libraries across the country. Notable institutions include the Vernadsky National Library of Ukraine and the National Library of Ukraine for Children.
