International Box Wine Day is observed worldwide every September 9, celebrating box wine, also known as bag-in-box wine. This holiday was launched in 2021 by Wine Nook, a company that produces elegant wine dispensers, with the aim of dispelling the stigma surrounding box wine. Box wine, packaged in a plastic pouch within a cardboard box, is often considered more cost-effective and sustainable than traditional bottled wine. It was invented by Australian winemaker Thomas Angove, who introduced the original design in the 1960s. Box wines have gained popularity not only for their affordability but also for their ease of transport and storage, as they are less fragile than glass bottles. Additionally, once opened, box wines can remain fresh for about a month due to their airtight packaging. To celebrate, people often gather with friends to enjoy box wine, typically accompanied by a charcuterie board, and share their experiences on social media using the hashtag #InternationalBoxWineDay.
