August 13: Small Business Support Day (Iran)

Small Business Support Day is observed in Iran on August 13 each year, coinciding with the 21st of Mordad in the Iranian calendar. This day aims to facilitate the development of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) by providing state-level support and funding. In Iran, small-sized businesses are defined as those employing between 5 to 50 people, and they represent over 90% of the total number of enterprises in the country, employing about half of the able-bodied population. Despite their prevalence, the productivity of these enterprises is relatively low compared to other countries, largely due to unfavorable economic conditions exacerbated by international sanctions. The Iranian government allocates funds to support enterprises that have suspended operations or are not functioning at full capacity. Small Business Support Day was established to highlight the significance of SMEs for the economy and the welfare of citizens.
