The Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, known as Khachaverats, is observed in Armenia and is one of the most significant feasts in the Armenian Apostolic Church. It is celebrated on the Sunday closest to September 14, commemorating the dedication of the Church of the Holy Sepulchre and the discovery of the True Cross by Saint Helena during her pilgrimage to Jerusalem. The church was consecrated on September 13, and the True Cross was venerated the following day, leading many congregations to mark the feast on September 14. A special liturgy is held in honor of the occasion, and the following Monday is recognized as a public holiday in Armenia, which is also a day of commemoration for the dead. This feast is one of the five major feasts in the Armenian Church, alongside Christmas and Epiphany, Easter, the Feast of Ascension, and the Feast of Transfiguration.
