National Heroes Day is observed in Bermuda on the third Monday in June. Established in 2008, the holiday was first celebrated on October 13 of that year before being moved to June to replace Queen's Birthday. This day honors individuals who have been officially recognized as National Heroes for their courage, noble qualities, and significant contributions to society. Notable figures include Dame Lois Browne Evans, the first National Heroine, and others such as Dr. Edgar Fitzgerald Gordon, Sir Henry James Tucker, and Dr. Roosevelt Brown, who were honored in 2010. The celebration does not occur annually for new heroes, as only five individuals had received the title by 2014. National Heroes Day serves to acknowledge the outstanding achievements of these individuals in Bermuda's history.
