The Day of Metallurgist is a professional holiday observed in several former Soviet republics, including Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Armenia, and Kazakhstan, every third Sunday of July. Originating in the Soviet Union in 1957, this holiday was established to honor the significant role that heavy industry and metallurgy played in the Soviet economy. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the holiday was retained in these countries, although some, like Ukraine, have renamed it to the Day of Metallurgy and Mining Industry. Celebrations are most prominent in cities with large metallurgical enterprises and typically include official ceremonies, concerts, and various events. As the holiday falls on a weekend, festivities are often held on the preceding Friday.
