Aviation Day is observed in Armenia on the third Sunday of June, commemorating the formation of the aviation units of the Armenian Air Force in 1992. Established as a professional holiday in 1997, it recognizes the role of the Air Force, which primarily provides tactical air support to ground forces. The Armenian Air Force insignia features a roundel with three concentric circles in the colors of the Armenian national flag: red, blue, and orange. Personnel are trained at the Military Aviation Institute in Yerevan, founded in 1993, where pilots undergo rigorous training on aircraft such as the Yak-52 and L-39, as well as Mi-2 helicopters for air crew training.
