World Baking Day is observed worldwide every third Sunday of May. The holiday encourages people to bake various goods, originally starting with the tradition of baking a cake to share with loved ones. Baking has a rich history, dating back over 14,000 years, with evidence of primitive ovens from 6,500 years ago. The day was launched by Unilever in the early 2010s to promote its margarine products and has been celebrated annually since 2012. Although the official social media accounts have been inactive since 2015, bakers continue to celebrate by sharing their creations and participating in activities like tea parties, bake-offs, and cookie decorating contests. Participants are encouraged to post photos of their baked goods on social media using the hashtags #WorldBakingDay and #BakingDay.
