National Denim Day is observed in Canada on the Tuesday following Mother's Day, with the aim of raising funds for breast cancer research and treatment. Established by the Cure Foundation in 1997, this event is inspired by the American Lee National Denim Day, which takes place in October. Participants are encouraged to wear denim at work in exchange for a $5 donation, and in return, they receive a pink flower ribbon as a symbol of support. The Cure Foundation also invites corporations to make matching donations to further contribute to the cause. Annually, the foundation provides a special “Dress for Cure” kit to simplify the organization of this event.
