Youth Day in Ukraine is observed every August 12, coinciding with International Youth Day, a change implemented in 2021 by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to reflect Ukraine’s integration into the European community. The celebration has its origins in 1958 when Soviet Youth Day was established, initially celebrated on the last Sunday of June. After Ukraine’s independence, the holiday continued under a presidential decree but was officially moved to August 12 to align with international standards. In Ukraine, youth is defined as individuals aged 14 to 35, according to the Law on Promoting the Social Formation and Development of Youth. Various youth organizations participate in the celebration, including the Plast National Scout Organization, which has a rich history dating back to 1911. Other notable organizations include the All-Ukrainian Youth Public Organization “SPOK” and the Ukrainian Children’s and Youth Association “Sich,” which are part of the National Organization of the Scouts of Ukraine.
