Agenamoric is an orientation term used by agender individuals to describe attraction that does not fit into the usual same gender or different gender categories. It refers to attraction experienced in a uniquely agender way, shaped by not having a gender identity. The term does not specify which gender or genders someone is attracted to. Instead, it focuses on the perspective from which that attraction is experienced.
Agenamoric can be used as a standalone orientation label or as an umbrella term for a variety of agender attraction experiences. It can also describe relationships where one or more people involved are agender. Because it centers on genderless identity, agenamoric falls under the broader category of aponian, which is the diamoric term for all genderless individuals.
The term is related to diamoric, which is used by non binary people to describe attraction that exists outside the same gender or opposite gender framework. Agenamoric is the agender specific version of this concept, providing language for people whose attraction is shaped by not having a gender at all.
Riley had tried using labels like bisexual and pansexual, but none of them felt completely right. These terms seemed built on the idea of having a gender and feeling attraction in relation to it. As someone who was agender, Riley did not experience attraction that way. Their feelings for people were real, but the whole same or opposite gender distinction felt meaningless.
One day, while reading about agender specific terms, Riley found the word agenamoric. The description made immediate sense—attraction that is experienced in an agender way, outside of traditional categories. For the first time, Riley had language that did not try to fit them into a framework built around gender.
Since then, Riley has used agenamoric both for their orientation and to describe their relationship with their partner, who is also agender. It gave them a sense of recognition and community. For Riley, agenamoric is not just a label. It is a reminder that their experience of attraction is valid without having to be compared to anyone else’s.
