Scigender

LGBTQ-alphabet

Scigender, or sciencegender, is an umbrella term for xenogenders that relate to science. This concept includes various subcategories such as technogender, astrogender, mathgender, and linguistingender. People who identify as scigender often feel a connection with scientific ideas or concepts. This may range from a gender identity that exists only in the context of science to one that reflects the qualities or principles of scientific thought.

Scigender can be interpreted in many ways. For some, it means that their gender is influenced by scientific ideas or that they only experience their gender identity when surrounded by scientific concepts. Others see scigender as an expression of a scientific aesthetic, such as astronomy, robotics, or computer science. This range of interpretations makes scigender a unique and deeply personal identity within the broader spectrum of gender diversity.

The term scigender was first used on April 6, 2019, by Mogai-Watch as a categorizing term for MOGAIpedia. On September 27, 2020, Mod Em from mogai-monarchs introduced the alternative name scigender on Tumblr. Since then, the concept has gained popularity, and several flags and symbols have been created to represent this identity. The scigender flag was designed by Tumblr user queerso on September 11, 2019, contributing to greater visibility for this gender identity.

Imagine Lisa, a physics student, who has always felt different from her friends. As someone who identifies as scigender, she feels a deep connection to the stars and outer space. When she looks up at the night sky, she feels completely herself. This experience helps her understand and embrace her gender identity more fully.

One day, Lisa decides to share her experiences with her friends during a gathering. She explains what scigender means to her and how science helps her define herself. Her friends listen attentively and show genuine interest in her story. The conversation not only strengthens Lisa’s confidence but also deepens her bond with her friends, who now have a better understanding of her unique identity.
