Father’s Day is observed in Samoa and Tokelau every year on the Monday after the second Sunday in August. This public holiday, while recognized, does not receive significant attention or elaborate celebrations. The holiday originated in the United States when Sonora Smart Dodd sought to complement Mother’s Day, originally established by Anna Jarvis, in honor of her father, William Jackson Smart, who raised five children alone. Although the initial proposal for Father’s Day was on June 5, it was later moved to the third Sunday in June, a date widely accepted in many countries. Samoa and Tokelau have chosen their own date for this occasion, reflecting the diverse ways Father’s Day is celebrated worldwide. On this day, businesses and offices are closed, but no special festivities are typically organized.
