Indigenous Literacy Day is observed in Australia every first Wednesday of September. This annual campaign is organized by the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF), a not-for-profit charity that aims to provide educational tools and resources to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote communities. The day celebrates the diverse linguistic and cultural heritage of Indigenous Australians, who speak approximately 250 Aboriginal languages and two Torres Strait Island languages.
