September 5: Day of Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan (Kazakhstan)

The Day of Languages of the Peoples of Kazakhstan is observed in Kazakhstan every September 5. Established in 1998 by a Presidential Decree, this day celebrates the diverse languages spoken in the country, commemorating the birthday of Akhmet Baitursynov, a prominent Kazakh intellectual and educator. The official state language is Kazakh, while Russian is used equally in government and daily life. Other languages, including Uzbek, Tatar, Kyrgyz, Ukrainian, Azerbaijani, Uygur, and Korean, are also spoken by various ethnic minorities. The celebration includes special lessons in schools, concerts, language contests, discussions, and conferences, all aimed at promoting linguistic diversity and fostering mutual understanding among the peoples of Kazakhstan.
