Constitution Day is observed in Fiji every September 7 to commemorate the adoption of the current Constitution, which took effect on September 6, 2013. This holiday was first celebrated in 2016, marking the third anniversary of the constitution's adoption. The 2013 Constitution introduced significant reforms, including the elimination of race-based electoral rolls and seat quotas, the abolition of the unelected Senate, and the lowering of the voting age to 18. Constitution Day aimed to educate citizens about the new constitution and promote its principles. Although it was once a public holiday, it was removed from the list of public holidays in 2023. The day serves as a reminder of Fiji's constitutional evolution and the importance of civic engagement.
