Armed Forces Day is observed in Montenegro every October 7, celebrating the professional soldiers who serve in the Montenegrin Armed Forces. This holiday marks the reorganization of the military following Montenegro's independence in 2006, which included the abolition of conscription and a shift to a volunteer-based military. Currently, the armed forces consist of approximately 1,950 active personnel divided among the army, navy, and air force. Montenegro's military reforms aim to prepare the country for full NATO membership, as it is currently a member of the Partnership for Peace program. The Montenegrin Armed Forces also contribute to global peacekeeping operations and collaborate with NATO troops in various missions.
