November 11: Independence Day (Poland)

Independence Day in Poland is observed nationwide every November 11, commemorating the establishment of the Second Polish Republic in 1918, which coincided with the end of the First World War. This day marks the restoration of Poland's sovereignty after it had ceased to exist following the Third Partition in 1795. The holiday was first instituted in 1937 and, after being unofficially observed during the Communist regime, was restored in 1989. Celebrations include official speeches, parades, marches, concerts, and fireworks, with the main military parade taking place at Piłsudski Square in Warsaw. A significant ceremony also occurs at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, where wreaths are laid to honor those who fought for Poland's independence.
