World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims is observed worldwide every third Sunday of November. This observance was initiated in 1993 by the British road crash victim charity, RoadPeace, founded by Brigitte Chaudhry. It gained wider recognition when the General Assembly of the European Federation of Road Traffic Victims supported it in 1995, followed by its introduction in various countries in 1998. The World Health Organization endorsed the event in 2003, and in 2005, the UN General Assembly invited all member countries to observe this day, formalizing it as a UN observance. The day commemorates the over 1 million people who die annually in road accidents and the 20-50 million who are injured, highlighting the importance of road safety and prevention of emergencies on the roads.
