Remembrance Day for the Victims of Holodomors is observed in Ukraine every fourth Saturday of November. This day commemorates the events of 1932-1933, during which an artificially caused famine led to the deaths of an estimated 9 to 13 million Ukrainians due to Soviet policies of grain procurement and collectivization. Recognized as genocide by Ukrainian authorities in 2006, the Holodomor is marked by memorial complexes erected in many cities across Ukraine. On this day, citizens participate in special services at these memorials, carrying lit candles and laying them at the foot of the monuments. A nationwide moment of silence is observed at 4:00 PM, allowing individuals to reflect on the tragedy and honor the victims.
