Our Lady of Camarin Day is observed in Guam every December 8, coinciding with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. This public holiday celebrates Our Lady of Camarin (Santa Marian Camalen), the patroness of Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands. The statue of Our Lady of Camarin, made of wood with an ivory face and hands, is adorned in a pink and blue gown and is believed to have been discovered by a fisherman in the 17th or 18th century. The celebration includes special church services, masses, and a procession around Hagåtña, where the statue is displayed on a flower-decorated cart. On this day, the Dulce Nombre de Maria Cathedral Basilica, where the statue is housed, is closed, and the statue is taken down from the apse for grooming. While the citizens of the Northern Mariana Islands do not celebrate this feast, they observe December 8 as Constitution Day.
