According to legend, she endured torture that involved having her teeth violently shattered or pulled out, which led to her association with dental health. St. Apollonia ultimately chose to die by fire rather than renounce her faith, a decision she made after a brief prayer. She is often depicted holding tongs with a tooth, symbolizing her connection to dentistry. The relics of St. Apollonia were originally preserved in a church in Rome, with pieces now kept in various churches and basilicas across Italy, Belgium, and France.
