First Saturday of May: Naked Gardening Day

World Naked Gardening Day (WNGD) is observed worldwide on the first Saturday of May. It was conceived by Mark Storey and Jacob Gabriel as a project of the Body Freedom Collaborative, aiming to promote the acceptance of non-sexual social nudity. The event encourages participants, primarily avid gardeners and naturists, to engage in gardening activities while nude, such as weeding, planting, and trimming. Although it is endorsed by various naturist organizations like the Naturist Society and the American Association for Nude Recreation, the day is intended to be a lighthearted celebration rather than a political statement. The inaugural event took place on September 10, 2005, but was moved to May in 2007. Notably, the New Zealand Naturist Federation observes the event on the last weekend of October due to climatic considerations. Participants can choose to garden in private spaces or engage in public activities, but should be aware of local public nudity laws.
