CASK Gene Awareness Day is observed worldwide every July 15 to highlight two rare genetic disorders caused by mutations in the CASK gene: microcephaly with pontine and cerebellar hypoplasia (MICPCH) and X-linked intellectual disability (XL-ID). The day aims to inform the public about the impact of these disorders, which arise from mutations in the CASK gene located on the X chromosome. MICPCH is characterized by severe symptoms such as profound developmental delay and seizures, predominantly affecting girls, while XL-ID affects both sexes and leads to varying degrees of intellectual disability. The disorders are incurable, and management typically includes supportive therapies like physical and speech therapy. CASK Gene Awareness Day serves as a platform for education and support for affected individuals and their families.
